Objective
This tour is part of the ongoing Spotlight Series held by the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) – Western Great Lakes Region to promote remote sensing technologies.  This tour is part of a Great Lakes Remote Sensing workshop to display and demonstrate new remote sensing technologies for forest resource management. This tour is in collaboration with the Canadian Remote Sensing Society, the St. Louis River Alliance, and the Geospatial Information Technology AssociationThe St. Louis River Estuary is one of the largest freshwater systems on the Great Lakes.  Tours of estuaries are always difficult using boats or busses.  However, this tour will take place on of all things, a tourist railroad which runs along and through the estuary on the Minnesota side.  This provides some of the easiest access to a variety of coastal wetlands, forests and natural features where the science of remote sensing interprets features and changes across the estuary.  A variety of maps will be handed out to provide visual examples of how the estuary has changed through time as viewed from above.Government of Canada

Sponsored in part by the Consulate General of Canada in Minneapolis to help promote binational programs such as remote sensing and Great Lakes issues.
